disposable happening

In 2009, I mailed disposable cameras to 33 people from all around the world. Friends, acquaintances, favorite musicians, and total strangers, asking them to photograph their lives and document their relationship with the world outside of themselves.

For the first week in December 2009, they did just that. Nationality, class, race, gender, access to technology, and political conditions all shaped what each participant could and did photograph, and those differences are part of what the project reveals.

The images you see are paired to highlight differences, draw attention to parallels, and emphasize the human experience.
